Proverbs 17:17 (NIV):
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”
This verse from Isaiah in the Jewish and Christian traditions calls us to rise beyond personal or political interest and step into a deeper sense of shared responsibility. It’s a reminder that righteousness isn’t passive—it requires action. We’re urged to learn what is right, seek justice actively, and defend those who cannot stand alone. These are not just religious ideals; they are the foundation of moral and national strength.
Today, as countries continue to suffer under aggression, our response as a nation holds profound meaning. Turning our backs—or even just turning down our voices—sends a message about what we value. Regardless of political beliefs, it’s worth reflecting on whether our current stance aligns with the values we claim to cherish. Supporting those who are oppressed and defending justice, especially when it’s hard, is what defines moral leadership. We may not all agree on policy, but we can agree that truth, loyalty, and compassion should guide our path. History remembers not only what people did, but also what they failed to do when it mattered most.
I choose to be a voice for justice, even when it’s difficult. I will not be silent when truth is distorted or when the vulnerable are abandoned. My values are not defined by convenience, but by compassion, courage, and commitment to what is right.
