Day 8 of 1461

Verse
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

Proverbs 31:8–9 (NIV)

Significance
This passage from Proverbs is a timeless reminder that justice begins with using our voice—especially when others are silenced. It doesn’t simply suggest kindness; it commands us to take an active role in defending those who are overlooked or cast aside. The “poor and needy” aren’t just those without money—they’re anyone pushed to the margins, denied opportunity, or stripped of dignity.

Today, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs aim to do exactly what Proverbs calls for: make space for voices that haven’t been heard and create systems that treat people fairly. When governments shut down these programs, they aren’t protecting fairness—they’re silencing the very voices Scripture says we must uplift. To be faithful in this moment means speaking up with courage, advocating with clarity, and never confusing comfort with justice.

Affirmation
My voice matters. I will use it to uplift others, protect the vulnerable, and speak truth where it is needed most. I am called to justice, not silence.
