“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
— Proverbs 31:8–9 (NIV)
Across many faiths, truth is sacred. In Christianity, Jesus said, “The truth will set you free.” In Islam, the Prophet Muhammad taught that falsehood leads to wickedness and ruin. In Judaism, the commandment not to bear false witness forms the moral spine of justice. In Buddhism, Right Speech calls us to speak what is true and beneficial. And Indigenous teachings often speak of ancestral memory and honoring those who came before us.
Today, that sacred truth is under attack. Efforts to erase the history of marginalized people—from manipulating public school curriculums to altering museum exhibits—are not just political strategies. They are spiritual betrayals.
To erase truth is to erase people. When stories are silenced, injustice becomes easier to justify. That’s why people of faith must stand together—not for one tradition or one people, but for the dignity and memory of all. Our spiritual call, regardless of belief system, is to preserve the truth and protect the vulnerable. We remember because forgetting is a form of violence. We speak because silence enables oppression. We act because our shared humanity demands it.
I honor the truth of every person and every people. I will not be silent as stories are erased or rewritten. I stand with all who protect memory, justice, and the dignity of every soul. Together, we preserve what is sacred.
