Verse

“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.”

Significance

This verse from the Gospel of Matthew warns about deception—about people or systems that appear kind and trustworthy on the outside, but have harmful intentions beneath the surface. The imagery of a wolf in sheep’s clothing is powerful. It teaches that deceit can look harmless, even comforting, until its damage is already done.

In our current world, we see this kind of deception in many forms—whether it’s media that manipulates facts, leaders who stir fear to maintain control, or institutions that teach misinformation to support harmful agendas. Brainwashing often begins with trust, especially when the innocent—children, the vulnerable, or the uninformed—are the targets. As a community, we must stay aware and compassionate. We are called to protect those who don’t yet know how to spot the wolves among the sheep, and to speak out when truth is being twisted.
