Day 69 of 1461

“Just as a mother would protect her only child with her life, even so let one cultivate a boundless love toward all beings. Let one radiate love toward the entire world—above, below, and all around—without obstruction, without hatred, without enmity.”

– Metta Sutta, Sutta Nipata 1.8

This Buddhist teaching is deeply relevant today. In a world where differences in race, religion, politics, and personal choices often create division, the Buddha’s words remind us that true peace comes from unconditional love and acceptance. When we cultivate metta (loving-kindness), we learn to embrace people as they are rather than forcing them to conform to our expectations. By releasing judgment and fostering compassion, we create a more harmonious society where people feel safe to express themselves and live according to their truth.

Moreover, this teaching encourages us to let go of hatred and enmity, which often arise from fear of differences. In an era of social media and global interconnectedness, people are quick to criticize and condemn others who think differently. The Buddha’s wisdom urges us to move beyond this reactive mindset and instead approach others with understanding. By doing so, we contribute to a world where love and acceptance prevail over division and hostility, allowing all beings the freedom to live peacefully.
